What's on tap at Maui Brewing Co.

November 1st, 2009 by Liz Smith

When we pulled in to Kahana Gateway Shopping Center, for our first visit to the Maui Brewing Co., I wasn't really sure what to expect.  A micro-brewery in a strip mall?  But once inside the restaurant/brewery, one quickly forgets the location.  The interior was apparently recently refurbished, to give it an industrial, yet, fun and lively feel, and even though we were one of two tables at 11am, that feeling was accomplished.

We rarely go out to eat anywhere that requires sit down service, with an almost two-year old, but we figured we'd give it a chance.  We quickly ordered the grilled chicken with a side of fruit for the little one, but deciding on a beer, with 13 to choose from, took a little more time.  Maui Brewing offers 3 in the stores, which we had tried before, so we decided to be adventurous (and fruity) with the Mana and Mango Wheats.

I had been under the impression, before seeing the menu, that this was a 'burger and pizza' joint, but it offers so much more.  I had the beer-battered brie (seriously, how could you resist?) with a carmelized pineapple dip, with the chili appetizer as the main course (definitely filling enough for an entree!) The brie was absolutely amazing and will keep me thinking of excuses to drive over an hour all the way back there.  Hubby had the Maui onion soup (also delicious) and the adult mac and cheese, with sausages and truffle oil, which was rich and yummy.

All in all, lunch at Maui Brewing way surpassed our expectations, with a waiter who truly understands customer service (regretfully, i forget his name, but he's the really tall bald guy), delicious beer, incredible, creative food- especially for the kids menu- and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

Looks good. For an Oahu resident, where is the Kahana Gateway? We have Gordon Biersch here that is sort of industrial looking as well. That design seems for work for brewing companies.

Thank you, I will be at Kaanapali over Thanksgiving and I will have a cold one because of you.

Wow , it's Thanksgiving Day! I'm enjoying my extra day off, and I am planning to doing something fun that'll probably involve a car trip and seeing something new in Normal I haven't seen yet.
You write something new at Thanksgiving?
